Pretty chill - IKEA built a flat in the middle of a Paris Metro station and got a bunch of people to live in it.

Some of the biggest conversations that take place online are triggered by things that take place offline. This is a pretty slick way of getting people talking about you.

A while ago I spent some time in Germany for a project meeting and before my flight home from Frankfurt Airport I hit the McDonalds to do something that I’ve always wanted to do - eat a McRib.

After consulting the Wikipedia entry for the McRib,  I discovered that it was introduced into the American market in 1981, and has since jumped on and off McDonald’s menus since 1985 - except in Germany, where it has been a regular fixture for many years.

You might have seen the episode of The Simpsons where Homer follows the “Ribwich” around as it introduced and withdrawn from different markets in the United States. This is of course based on the McRib. If you look hard enough you can find a number of sites that track where the sandwich is currently being sold in the United States and around the world.

Needless to say - the McRib looked pretty disgusting. It was covered in this peculiar barbecue sauce and had an assortment of rather nasty looking onions on it. The actual patty is shaped to look like a little rack of ribs - and I think is meant to be pork.

Anyway - I managed to get past the rather unpleasant look and feel of the McRib and take my first bite. Surprisingly, it actually tasted pretty delicious, although it was a little on the oniony side for me. The combination of weird sauce and unidentifiable meat product turned out to be a winner for me.

I feel like the McRib satisfies a rather peculiar urge. It’s not a sandwich that I would order every time - more of a fun sideline. It really does look like something of another planet and the onions are pretty off-putting, but there is something about the McRib that really hits the spot.

Overall, I would give the McRib a 7.5/10. Hmm, might start reviewing all kinds of fast food products from now on. This was actually pretty fun.
